Throwback Thursdays- Saving energy even in the sweltering heat of 1984

In Waikiki, Hawaii the heat is always a dilemma when it comes to building a shopping center. However, the developers of the Waikiki Center found a way to save energy and still keep the center cool and comfortable. Energy saving was created by using natural cooling materials such as cement, high ceilings to maximize the flow of air and by combining three cooling towers into one. These techniques kept the shopping center eco-friendly, efficient and cool all at the same time.
