Tell us about yourself and what do you do?
I’m an avid connector and a serial networker, and I get a charge out of bringing people together to solve a problem or fill a need. My entire commercial real estate career has been with C&W | PICOR in Tucson, where I am one of 13 principals. After many years leading our property management division, I moved into a company leadership role, serving as associate broker and leading marketing and operations. I launched and edit our blog, PICOR Connect: Trends in Commercial Real Estate. My love for a good cup of coffee was the genesis of Twitter’s #crejavaclub, where we share a virtual *clink*, coffee stats and humor with fellow CRE coffee lovers many mornings (join us – no entrance exam or hazing required). I started running at 42 and have finished 3 half marathons, am a lifelong choral singer, somewhat of a clothes horse, current President of Tucson CREW, Tucson Girls Chorus board member, in love with my patient husband, and adorer of (almost) all things our four kids and grandson do.
Where do you see the industry heading in regards to mobile, social, and digital in the next 5 years?
The writing’s been on the wall, and most of the commercial real estate industry just defogged their glasses. Social may be a misnomer in the business world, but the addition of branding, connecting and networking through social will be a permanent arrow in our quivers. 2013 has been dubbed the year of mobile by many, and I agree completely that the way we consume and digest information that drives buying decisions is changing in ways that don’t so much threaten the bricks and mortar retail industry, but challenge it.
What is your favorite social network to use and Why?
Twitter, without a doubt. It feeds my appetite for intell, resources and connections unlike any other. It’s the best source of breaking news, instant feedback, and a terrific place to build connections. I’ve met many people IRL (in real life) after Twitter exchanges at CREW conventions, local events and the like. It becomes a very warm call. At RECon next week, we’ll have the chance to meet a bevy of #CRE pros at the Monday Tweetup to see if they are as cool as their Twitter personas have us believe…
What is your favorite mobile app to use and why?
It’s hard to choose one, but I really love Flipboard on both my Android phone and my iPad for its beauty and ease of content curation.
Tell us about your session at the# iTechLounge and what people can expect to hear.
I have two Twitter sessions, 1.0 and 2.0. The intro level session is “Twitter Titans: Rock it out like the Industry’s Best.” We’ll cover 10 best practices and credit some industry rock stars who do it right. You can kill #2birds1stone and meet Randi Zuckerberg, then come to my session nearby. In the 2.0 session, we’re highlighting “Twitter Tools to Elevate Your Game.” Perhaps if you’re a Twitter newbie or vet, you’ll find a new resource or two to make you more effective or productive on the platform.
How can people reach out to you on social? (Give whatever links you would like people to contact you on)
You might have gathered I’m most active on Twitter (@BarbiReuter), but also LinkedIn. I also invite you to follow C&W | PICOR and connect with us on Twitter (@PICORcres) and LinkedIn. We’re on Google+, but still find we’re talking to ourselves and Dave Lewand, who is kind enough to ‘plus one’ us regularly.
