You have been with ICSC for three months and your first week was RECon.
I was in the office for three days, barely knew how to get to my desk and I was put on a plane to Las Vegas. I have been to big conventions before, but I was not prepared for what RECon is.
Honestly I wouldn’t have wanted to start any other way. I was able to see the members in action, meet so many of them and I wasn’t bored a moment. I was lucky I knew to pack comfortable shoes.
What is your background prior to ICSC?
I come from another real estate membership organization, the National Association of REALTORS. I was part of their Political Action Committee fundraising and programs team. After years of raising money for politicians, I needed a change.
Tell us what is new with the ICSC Foundation.
This is a very exciting time for the foundation. We are in the middle of a $5 million capital campaign.
With the injection of funds we are going to be able expand our scholarships and community outreach programs. We will get to create some exciting new opportunities for students and young professional members. With community outreach, the sky is the limit. I am excited to get to work with the committees that will dream up our next big ideas.
Even though we are a small staff, executive director Valerie Cammiso and I, we have a lot of big plans to roll out.
How do you spend your time outside of ICSC?
Outside of ICSC, my life revolves around our seven month old Australian Sheppard rescue puppy, Sammie. She is a complete trip, with two different colored eyes and more energy than we know what to do with. We spend a lot of time at the dog park where she has to be the center of attention.
Thanks Bethany for taking the time to sit down with us. Welcome to ICSC!
