The Wausau Center in Wisconsin, developed an idea to incorporate the public sector into their mall. Surrounding the Center, a pop up outdoor marketplace was created in 1984. Through this innovative creation the Shopping Center was able to attract many new customers and gain public support.

The architects went into the project with a goal of creating the nations “most exciting and unique mall” of 1984. With the instillation of a three story atrium and the first ever Teflon coated roof, the Miami Mall was a slam dunk.

Shopping malls are not just about the retail stores. The Lenox Square Mall, in 1983 installed an abstract sculpture to highlight the architectural feel of their center, and draw in an artistic demographic.
